Dear readers,

Tomorrow is my next art opening: Shade in LA

My  2 reinterpreted umbrellas will be part of Shade in LA art installation with 20 other umbrellas:

Arroyo Arts Collective Presents

Shade In LA: Rising Heat Inequity In A Sunburnt City

Shade Equity and Climate Change

May 21 – June 18, 2022

Opening Reception -

Sat. May 21, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00p.m.

Using re-purposed umbrellas as their canvas, artists are exploring the themes of climate change, heat, drought, and wildfire. These outdoor installations address and highlight the issue of shade equity, a problem that disproportionately affects low-income and working-class communities and people of color, who are more likely to work outdoors, rely on public transportation, and live in neighborhoods with a lack of trees and shade.

Shade in L.A. is located outside of the Avenue 50 Studio space, with each umbrella installed in a manner that suspends at a height sufficient to provide shade to visitors. The installation design is meant to serve two audiences: 1) train passengers who will get a quick glance of a colorful and visually impactful installation; and 2) visitors and pedestrians who can walk (and perhaps sit) under the installation to get an interactive experience.

Shade in L.A. Artists: Chantée Benefield, Joe Bravo, Mary Cheung, Aleka Corwin, Pascaline Doucin-Dahlke, Sandy Huse, Diane Kohne, Yvette Nicole Kolodji, Brianna Mitjans, Rebecca Nabarrete, Cat Chiu Phillips, and Lisa Tomczeszyn; the Rock Rose Gallery Youth Artist Intern Program.

Musical Performance by: Shoshana Ben-Horin (5/21), The Peanut Butter & Jellies (6/18)

Opening Reception: Sat. May 21, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00p.m. at Avenue 50 Studio, 131 North Avenue 50, Los Angeles, CA 90042.

Exhibition Dates: May 21 – June 18, 2022

Closing Reception: Sat. June 18, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00p.m.

See you there!
